Dear John

Dear John knocked Avatar off the top spot (though that day had to come sooner or later).
It's the Nick Sparks story about a boy who is in the military (Channing Tatum). On leave, he meets a girl (Amanda Seyfried) and they fall in love over a two week period. He goes off to war, thinking he'll be back in a year. But when September 11th changes everything, they are forced to live their love via letters.
Okay, we can all agree that this movie is not aimed at me. If you are a fan of The Notebook --- then Dear John is for you.
I found it to be very cliched and melodramatic. Though it starts out as an okay romance, it really gets grim once she writes her Dear John letter to him. You may like all this --- I don't. I don't want to be forced to feel emotion in a heavy handed movie, I'd rather feel the emotion in spite of myself in a good movie. But as I said on the air this morning, there are some bad sci fi movies that I love, though I could never call them a GOOD movie.
1 Dork out of 5 for me, 3 Dorks for you. Ultimately, I think The Notebook was stronger (though it's practically the same story), but if you like Nick Sparks, you'll enjoy Dear John.
And ladies --- what do we think of Channing Tatum? I was torn between a good undertated perforance from him, or the fact that he is just a six pack with an empty skull and no charisma. What do you think? Channing --- hot or not?
I loved The Notebook, but
I loved The Notebook, but was bored by Dear John. I was so excited to see it and left the theatre feeling very let down. It was a very slow movie, which is probably why I found it boring. I thought the girl beside me was going to fall asleep. The only positive thing was Channing Tatum!! Can't go wrong with him in a movie :)
