Swimming, elephants, and photo bombing
Well I am just so darn proud of myself that I can’t help but boast.
Regular readers will know that I am signed up for the Frank Dunn Triathlon on August 10th at Waskesiu. In part I signed up so that I would be forced to learn to swim. I started last September in the Saskatoon Triathlon Club’s “Learn to Swim” program. Prior to the swim I could swim a little bit. I have a pool in the backyard and I am capable to paddling around a little bit. But, swimming 25 meters in a pool was pretty hard for me. Yesterday in the Lakewood Civic Centre Pool I swam 1500 meters – no stopping. It took me 50 minutes. It felt like quite an accomplishment. And as long as I can make the transition from pool to lake I should be OK in August. I may be the last person out of the lake (I expect that I will be) but at least I will, in fact, get out of the lake.
Here’s a scary moment:
When a six-ton elephant suddenly lumbered over to the Volkswagen Golf in a South African safari park, Rico Beltrame and his sister Angela feared it was going to reduce the vehicle to scrap metal - with them inside. However, the giant tusker turned out to be more curious than crazed. Coming to a halt alongside the car, it plonked its massive trunk firmly across the roof, slightly denting it.
A park ranger shouted over to Mr Beltrame to switch off his engine - which he did with a trembling hand. Then the 12ft elephant just stood there, gazing down at the rented Golf as Mr Beltrame and his sister stared back, frozen with fear.
For six minutes the standoff continued, with the brother and sister expecting at any second that the roof would come crashing down on them.

And, today’s pic of the day.
"Photo Bombing" is the skill of sneaking into the background of a photo. Note the gentleman here who has photo bombed this happy couples wedding picture.
Enjoy.

David Adjey
Dave, Thats great news about your swimming! You will do better then you think I'm sure.
I love that elephant story, they are amazing animals.
You are going to have a blast at the David Adjey dinner. I dont know if you have seen his show Restaurant Makeover, but it is one of my favorites. I entered the contest and hope I win. Wish I could get a ticket myself but there are just to expensive, it would make a good upcoming birthday present to myself!
Wow!
Congrats Dave! That's an amazing accomplishment, considering you weren't much into it before September. Not really surprised, considering you mastered the ukulele...and that pesky F cord is it???
Best of luck at Whiskey Slough in August! (That's what us Aberdonians call it)
