The Day I Met The Great One And Mr. Hockey

Friday night's Kinsmen Sports Celebrity Dinner was really an amazing night for a hockey lovin' youngster like myself. Okay, I may not be 10 years old, but I felt like it on Friday. I'm kind of jaded when it comes to meeting celebrities. I've turned down more opportunities than I can count because it's always a lot of waiting around for what usually amounts to 2 or 3 minutes of disappointing handshakes. But, when I had the chance to meet Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe together on Friday night, I knew this was a once in a lifetime opprtunity. Gretzky and Howe were sitting at a table right at the front of the huge room at TCU Place. I was a couple of tables back but eventually I managed to crash Premiere Brad Wall's table, which was right next to Gretzky and Howe. A big thanks to Mayor Atchison and Premiere Wall for letting me join them while I awaited my chance to jump over to get a picture with the two greatest players to ever lace 'em up. Finally, I saw my chance and I had the help of one of the great guys in the city, Paul Merrimen of the Saskatoon Food Bank. Paul heard me talking about Gretzky on the air on Friday morning and made it his mission to get me over to the table to get a picture. Paul held the camara and I leaned in for a couple of quick words with Gretzky and this picture...(You can see mayor Atchison and Premiere Wall at the table behind me and a big security guy cocking his fist and aiming it for my head in case I get too aggressive with the boys)
Some people want to save lives or change the world or something silly like that. This was my dream.

Very cool.
