Dir: Andrew Stanton

Synopsis: Wall-E is a trash collecting robot, left behind to clean up the Earth when humanity abandons the planet.  He falls in love with a robot named Eve and they embark on a cosmic.

Wowza.  Disney Pixar has set the bar once again.  This movie was an amazing feast for the eyes --- it almost looks real in points!  They use little camera tricks like a pull focus to trick your brain into thinking it's more real.

The story is simple, yet timeless.  The characters are cute, fun, and well written.  It's interesting to note that there is hardly any dialogue in the movie.  Some people weren't sure how this was going to fly --- but it works just fine.  Film is a visual medium, so in a really great movie, you should be able to take the dialogue completely out and have the movie still make sense.

Wall-E is also a big ecological and political statement.  It takes a huge swipe at Wal-mart and the idea that corporations are becoming more powerful than the government.  It also takes smaller swipes at other corporations, like the practice of aiming high impact advertising at children by a certain fast food chain.  The movie seems to be making the point that  if we don't wise up, restrict corporate power and pay attention to our own lives, then we're destined to become a race of fat lazy useless slobs that need robots to do everything for us (oh, yeah...I'm halfway there already...).  I expect that in the wake of the George Bush years, we're going to see a lot more films like this that question authority.  Though some of the message might seem hypocritical, as I'm pretty sure that 80 percent of the Wall-E DVD's will be sold in Wal-mart and eventually end up in a landfill.

All in all --- this is a stellar family movie.  It works on many different levels, and has something for both kids and adults.  Plus, the opening cartoon is really good.  It has a cute bunny.  You can't go wrong with a cute bunny.
